Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has part funded the creation of a new website for the region’s Performing Arts as part of its first round of Community Support Grants.

The Network for Regional Performing Arts received funding for the project under the Cultural Arts Support Grants program, which is part of more than $360,000 to be injected back into the community through Round 1 of the 2024/25 grants program.

TRC Community Development, Facilities and Tourism portfolio spokesperson, Councillor James O’Shea, said the new website will provide a central platform for promotion of various arts groups to the wider community.

“The Network for Regional Performing Arts aims to bring together various Toowoomba community arts groups with the following goals: Connect, Advocate, Communicate, Conserve, and Educate,” Cr O’Shea said.

“The new website has the potential to benefit a number of groups across the region, which make positive contributions to our communities,” he said.

“Council is pleased it can make a contribution and encourage these groups to grow.”

Council also funded three groups under its Youth Support Grant program including:

Downs Industry Schools Co-operation Inc (DISCO) to help young people transition from school to work or further study. Wesleyan Methodist Church of Australia (Toowoomba) to help vulnerable youth with life skills and mentoring. Youturn Limited for a range of activities assisting First Nations and LGBTQIA+

Cr O’Shea said Council’s website promotes different funding programs throughout the year.

“Funding grants require applicants to first register for a SmartyGrants account. Sign up is free and access to the SmartyGrants portal is via Council's website, which lists all available funding opportunities,” he said.

“It is a one-stop shop that makes it easier for community organisations to apply and provides them with a better online experience when completing an application.”
