Andree, a dedicated volunteer at Edgar’s Mission in Lancefield, continues to devote her time and efforts to moments that benefit her values and those of the community.
For the past decade, Andree has been a vital part of Edgar’s Mission, a sanctuary devoted to animal welfare and rehabilitation. Every Sunday, and more frequently since moving closer, she dedicates her time to essential tasks like cleaning shelters, checking water, tidying up paddocks, and other administrative tasks; fundamental part in ensuring the sanctuary remains a safe and welcoming environment for its animals and any visitors.
Working alongside Pam – the founder of Edgar’s Mission – and other volunteers, Andree finds purpose and connection in her role. She describes the sanctuary as a place of calm and fulfillment, where shared values and dedication to animal welfare create a supportive community.
Volunteering at Edgar’s Mission has deeply impacted Andree’s life. It has provided her with a sense of belonging and purpose, especially during challenging times like the COVID-19 pandemic. Being able to volunteer at the sanctuary through COVID felt like a breath of fresh air.
“It sometimes feels like coming home, when you’re coming here. To me it’s like a meditation,” Andree said.
Andree’s story is an example of the profound impact of senior volunteers. Her dedication to Edgar’s Mission highlights how meaningful and transformative volunteering can be, both for the volunteers and the communities they serve.
