Tune up the body and mind at Toowoomba Regional Council’s (TRC) new Active Mates weekly exercise program that starts at the Lindsay Street oval, Queens Park from noon on Saturday, October 5, 2024.
TRC Parks and Recreation Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Tim McMahon said the sessions were open to men of all fitness levels for $5 per person, per session. For details, visit www.tr.qld.gov.au/change (Under Group fitness - Toowoomba)
“Active Mates will offer a 45-minute exercise session from noon each Saturday at the Lindsay Street oval in upper Queens Park,” Cr McMahon said.
“After the physical workout, there is a chance for participants to chat or discuss any matters of interest to clear the mind.
“The program also offers participants a chance to mentor a group of boys with disabilities who will attend from 1pm each week.
“The vision for mentoring came from Isaac of Active Care Support Services, who was inspired to develop a ‘big brother’ mentoring activity session for men of all abilities to build trust, tackle challenges and help each other.
“The sessions are designed to inspire attendees to enjoy physical activity and a conversation in a supportive environment that can be hard to find in other settings or busy work days.
“Active Mates is another example of how the varied activity programs under the Change Project offer more affordable and accessible opportunities for residents to lead healthy and active lives.
“Our award-winning Change Project has scores of low-cost or free activities and programs to help residents make simple, but effective lifestyle improvements.
