Free youth pool lifeguard and first aid training

Published on 04 October 2024

Young Corangamite Shire residents have an opportunity to dive into a new career.

Council is offering free pool lifeguard training to get them off the starting block.

Chief Executive Officer David Rae said the SISSS00133 Pool Lifeguard certificate was the minimum requirement to work in the industry.

“This course will give successful participants the skills and knowledge they need to supervise swimming pool users.

“It includes pool surveillance, scanning techniques, rescue skills, oxygen resuscitation and emergency care. They will also receive HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation certificate.

“This course is recommended for anybody who wants to work in the aquatic industry. It is also recommended for those involved in aquatic exercise, swim coaching, aquatic excursions or who have responsibility for supervision and safety in and around pools.

“There are only 20 places so get in quick and register at corangamite.vic.gov.au/Training”

Participants must have a first aid/CPR certificate before they can register and can do that course the week before.

What when and where:

Saturday 26 October: First Aid/CPR (face-to-face and online), Cobden Health indoor pool, 10 – 2 pm Saturday 1-Sunday 2 November: Pool Lifeguard Course, Cobden Health indoor pool, 9.30 am – 4.30 pm

For further information on the training, please call council on 5593 7100.

Completion of these courses and being certified does not guarantee you will be employed at a Corangamite Swimming Pool this summer.
