Mountain bike riders will be able to enjoy a safer and more sustainable riding experience at Albany’s popular Poikeclerup Mountain Bike Trail thanks to specialised work to rebuild the trail.
Poikeclerup Mountain Bike Trail was built by local riders over 20 to 30 years ago but over time it’s condition deteriorated to the point it didn’t meet safety and environmental standards.
The trail has been realigned to comply with the WA Mountain Bike Trail Management Standards with remedial work on the trail focused on improving safety, stability, and sustainability.
Key upgrades have made the trail safer for all riders from beginners to experienced bikers with special attention given to areas that required erosion control and better drainage.
Work was carried out to avoid conservation-significant flora, ensuring the local environment is protected and that the trail is respectful of the natural and cultural heritage of Poikeclerup.
The City has ensured that the realigned trail is respectful of the area’s culturally significant granite formations which have been preserved, allowing future generations to enjoy their beauty.
Mayor of Albany Greg Stocks said the revitalisation was a perfect example of how the City is improving local amenities while preserving the region’s unique heritage.
“The Poikeclerup Mountain Bike Trail is a treasure for our community. These upgrades have made it safer, more sustainable, and respectful of the environment and culture,” Mayor Stocks said.
“With support from the State Government, Poikeclerup Mountain Bike Trail has been given new life, with safety, recreation and community building at the heart of the project.
“Mountain Bike riders are encouraged to ride the revitalised trail and enjoy these recreational opportunities that exists in our own backyard.”
The Poikeclerup Mountain Bike Trail revitalisation project has been made possible through the State Government with project support from the City of Albany and Albany Mountain Bike Club.
