Federation Councillors, Cr Cheryl Cook and Cr Rowena Black have been elected into their respective leadership roles following an extraordinary meeting of Council on Tuesday, October 15.
Cr Cheryl Cook was elected to the position of Mayor, defeating Cr Derek Schoen, who was also nominated for the position 5-4.
Cr Rowena Black was elected to the position of Deputy Mayor unopposed. Mayor, Cr Cook and Deputy Mayor, Cr Black will hold their positions for a 2 year period, until September 2026.
Federation Council Mayor, Cr Cheryl Cook thanked councillors for putting their trust in her for the next 2 year period.
"Thank you to my fellow Councillors for their support, it is greatly appreciated," Mayor Cook said.
“We are now at a point of transition, reflection and opportunity for influence and growth. I intend to bring a positive and balanced approach to my mayoral leadership and have a strong desire to see a strong team working for the best outcomes for our diverse community.”
Mayor Cook said she is grateful and paid thanks to the prior councillors for working under unmitigated circumstances during the past few years.
Federation Council Deputy Mayor, Cr Rowena Black said she was honoured to be elected to the position of Deputy Mayor.
“I look forward to working alongside Mayor Cook and fellow councillors over the next two years to make positive contributions and address the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead for our region,” Deputy Mayor Black said.
