Skelly Recreation Reserve at Crows Nest has emerged as the community’s preferred option for a fenced dog off-leash area in the town.
Toowoomba Regional Council Parks and Recreation Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Tim McMahon said a fenced, dog off-leash park area for Crows Nest was a step closer, following the assessment of community feedback on the preferred location.
Cr McMahon said the survey that was conducted in September, revealed a clear preference for the fenced area to be in Skelly Recreation Reserve.
“Overall, there was support for an off-leash park area to be provided in Crows Nest, with 60% of respondents favouring Skelly Recreation Reserve over the alternative Dale Street Park,” Cr McMahon said.
“We thank the passionate community members who took the time to give their feedback.
“Our team is now working on the formal survey and development of the concept design for the park area that is closest to Showground Terrace.
“There will be another round of consultation under the Local Laws process, where the community will have an opportunity to view the concept plan.
“Residents will be advised ahead of the next consultation process in coming months.
“The proposal for a designated area would give dog owners a place to train, socialise and exercise their pets off-leash.
“Council provides 27 dog off-leash areas in parks across the Region where dogs can exercise and socialise leash-free with other dogs and dog park visitors.
“Council aims to strike a balance between dog owners who love to walk their dogs off-leash at our parks and other members of our community, particularly families, who also use the parks.”
