Charters Towers Regional Council has re-established the Rural Industry Advisory Group, a key initiative aimed at ensuring rural residents have a direct channel for providing input on significant issues affecting our rural community.

The Advisory Group will focus on strategic matters within Council’s jurisdiction, such as road policies, process for disaster relief funding arrangements, biodiversity initiatives, and more.

Councillor Steven Plant, who will play an instrumental role in the advisory group, emphasised the importance of rural representation in Council’s strategic deliberations.

“Representation in this group will allow rural residents to have input into Council’s decision-making on key issues affecting our rural community.

“This is not just about consultation, it’s about genuine collaboration with those who live and work in these areas.

“Through this group, we are ensuring that rural voices are not only heard but considered in the critical decisions that impact their livelihoods.”

The Advisory Group, which consists of representatives from different landowner quadrants within the Charters Towers Regional Council Local Government area, will meet regularly and provide recommendations to Council.

“The Rural Industry Advisory Group will be an important platform for raising awareness and addressing the concerns of rural industries, serving as a proactive way to involve the community in shaping the future of our region.” said Cr Plant.

The establishment of this group also aligns with Council’s broader strategic objectives to enhance rural infrastructure and ensure the long-term sustainability of rural industries.

Council is encouraging further representation from rural residents through an Expression of Interest (EOI) process. If you are interested in representing your quadrant, please email [email protected]
