The survivor of a kidnapping that shocked Victoria more than 50 years ago and how this event affected her life will be the focus of the final Gannawarra Library Service Author Talks session for 2024.
Robyn Howarth, the author of Faraday – A Community Rediscovered, will be the guest during this special event, occurring at the Cohuna Library on Wednesday, 27 November at 10.30am.
“The Gannawarra Library Service is honoured to have secured Robyn for this special event, which will focus on what occurred at Faraday State School in October 1972 and how it impacted all involved,” Gannawarra Shire Council Acting Chief Executive Officer, Amanda Wilson said.
Faraday – A Community Rediscovered focuses on what became known as the Faraday school kidnapping, which saw six students and a teacher kidnapped by two men and taken from the school to a remote bush location.
“Robyn was one of the six students kidnapped, and she has written an account of not only the events of that fateful afternoon but the aftermath of the ordeal,” Ms Wilson said.
“Faraday – A Community Rediscovered highlights how the innocence of an entire town and the State of Victoria, was lost and changed forever by the events of 6 October 1972.
“Robyn also focuses on the aftermath of this heinous crime and the long road she and her fellow students had to ensure to recover and see justice occur.”
Places for this free event are limited, and will book out quickly.
