Wyndham City 4 Nov 2024

Wyndham City wants to hear your ideas about how Council can help increase recycling rates and support good waste practices in the home, and ultimately keep waste costs as low as possible.

Residents are invited to share what changes to costs, services and programs might be reasonable to help bring everyone along on the journey to meet Wyndham’s 2030 waste management targets, while also meeting the State Government’s waste management requirements.

Wyndham aims to reduce the amount of food and garden waste that goes to landfill, which is critical to delivering our ambitious waste reduction and recycling targets and also ultimately aims to reduce the cost of waste disposal to residents.

The targets align with the State Government’s policy that all Local Government Councils must provide a food and green waste service to households by 2030, to reduce waste to landfill.

Wyndham is working towards the following 2030 goals:

20 per cent reduction in the waste we generate at home by 2030 Halve household food waste to landfill by 2030 90 per cent of the waste we generate at home is kept out of landfill Wyndham residents are recycling right by 2030 (with only 5 per cent contamination)

Wyndham City CEO Stephen Wall said residents are now invited to provide feedback on what’s working and what Wyndham can do better to improve how waste is collected, recycled and reused.

“Community satisfaction results show residents considered Wyndham’s services for the collection of hard waste, green waste, garbage and recycling to be ‘excellent’.

“Data shows households in Wyndham recycle about 42.7 kg a year and divert about 71.9 kg of green waste per a household from landfill - but we’re encouraging our residents to reduce waste even further.”

“Waste disposal costs and obligations are increasing with government incentives to reduce waste to landfill and divert more to recycling.”

“Waste management affects every household in Wyndham daily – now is the time to share your thoughts to increase our City’s liveability and work towards a sustainable future.”
