On Friday 8 November 2024, the Victorian Electoral Commission announced the newly elected Councillors of Ararat Rural City.

Jo Armstrong, Rob Armstrong, Peter Joyce, Teli Kaur, Luke Preston, Bob Sanders and Bill Waterston were elected to represent the municipality for a term of four years.

Luke Preston, Peter Joyce, and Teli Kaur will be serving their first terms as Councillors.

The newly elected Councillors will take their Oaths and Affirmations of Office this afternoon, where they will be sworn in by Ararat Rural City Council CEO Dr Tim Harrison.

“The role of Councillor is a challenging job, and can differ greatly from public perceptions,” said Dr Harrison.

“Councillors will play a crucial role in determining Council’s strategic direction, and the community will see this reflected through our Annual Budget and four-year Council Plan.

"Congratulations to all candidates; it takes a great deal of courage to put yourself forward. The fact that twelve people did so reflects positively on our community.

"I look forward to collaborating with all our new Councillors in our efforts to continually improve all service areas of Ararat Rural City.”

A Statutory Meeting will be held at Shire Hall on Tuesday 12 November 2024 to elect the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Ararat Rural City, and committee roles will be allocated.
