Urban stormwater drainage assessment continues

Continued efforts to assess Gannawarra Shire Council’s urban stormwater network will increase from today.

Teams from asset inspection contractor, Proterra Group will travel throughout the municipality, using fixed zoom cameras to inspect stormwater pipes and culverts, with the data provided to assist with maintenance efforts.

“Monitoring our urban stormwater network is an important task, especially after our experience when urban flash flooding occurred on Christmas Day 2023 as a result of a power outage and following two storms that impacted communities in January this year,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“The information provided from these inspections will enable to Council to better manage our urban stormwater network, which will enable us to develop more effective maintenance and renewal strategies to improve drainage for residents and businesses.”

Crews will be based at Lalbert and Quambatook today, before moving onto Murrabit and Koondrook and Council’s largest networks, being Cohuna, Kerang and Leitchville.

“These inspections are occurring alongside Council’s continued efforts to improve its urban stormwater networks to reduce the risk of future flash flooding, which as we saw earlier this year impacts residents and businessowners in varying ways,” Mr Rollinson said.

Anyone who has questions about these inspections is encouraged to contact Council on (03) 5450 9333.

Residents are also reminded to contact Council on (03) 5450 9333 or visit www.gsc.vic.gov.au/request if they have concerns regarding the municipality’s urban stormwater network.
