Wodonga celebrates 100 years of iconic water tower

The Wodonga community will celebrate a significant milestone on Wednesday, December 4, as we mark the 100-year anniversary of the Wodonga Water Tower, a landmark that has served our community since 1924.

The water tower has been a focal point of Wodonga since its construction and became a meeting place for many, and a landmark for directions in town.

The tower provided water supply to Wodonga for many years until it was decommissioned in 1959, when the town’s water was collected from the new reservoir on Huon Hill which is still used today.

To celebrate 100 years of the Wodonga Water Tower, an event will be held at Woodland Grove, at 10am, where the Wodonga Brass Band will perform a special rendition of Happy Birthday, followed by a cake cutting and the unveiling of a commemorative interpretive sign to honour the Water Tower’s century-long legacy.

From 11am to 3pm, Hyphen – Wodonga Library Gallery’s Community Studio will feature a special exhibit with personal stories, historic photographs, and videos celebrating the tower’s role in the Wodonga’s identity.

Guest speakers from the Wodonga and District Historical Society and Wodonga Family History Society will share insights into the landmark’s history.

Visitors are encouraged to record their memories in a visitor book, which will be preserved as a memento by the historical societies.
