Planning for the Region’s future

Over the coming months, Charters Towers Regional Council will review and update the Community Strategic Plan (CSP) to ensure it reflects the community’s vision for the future.

The CSP is a 2 x 5 year strategic document that informs the direction and priorities of Council over a 10-year period and defines the commitments and outcomes that Council intends to achieve and outlines action areas to deliver.

As part of this review, Council is excited to commence engagement with the community in the coming weeks with workshops, pop-ups and a survey to gain feedback to inform the plan.

Mayor Liz Schmidt said the CSP identifies the community’s main priorities and aspirations and provides a clear set of objectives for Council to achieve the vision.

“It is the community’s plan and it is important for community to be involved in its development”, said Mayor Schmidt.

The Plan forms part of Council’s Integrated Planning, Performance & Reporting Framework and it is vital that there is understanding of the community’s expectations around key priorities and service levels.

To provide an opportunity for all residents to shape the region’s future, workshops have been scheduled throughout over the coming weeks.  Dates and times are listed below:

A survey has also been developed to gain insight into what the community value most about living in the region and what they believe are high priority issues when planning for the future.  As an added incentive, those who complete the survey also have the opportunity to win one of six $100 vouchers.

The insights gathered from community engagement will inform the drafting of the CSP, which will then guide the four main pillars of community, economy, environment and governance.

“Council will continue to engage with stakeholders throughout this process, ensuring transparency and accountability in the implementation of the plan.

“By understanding what the community’s vision is, Council can then develop a plan that aligns their strategies with the long-term vision of our community in mind,” continued Mayor Schmidt.
