Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is undertaking landslip remediation repairs to the Firetail and Fantail walks at Picnic Point on Toowoomba’s eastern escarpment.

TRC Parks and Recreation Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Tim McMahon said the popular walks would be closed to the public to repair damage from the 2022 floods.

“The walking trails are scheduled to be re-opened to the public by Christmas, weather permitting,” Cr McMahon said.

“The Picnic Point trail repairs are the final components of the landslip repairs that have been undertaken as part of the 2022 Flood Recovery Program.

“The works include batter stabilisation, grade improvement works and establishment of rock drains.

“This is a significant milestone as we close out the final few projects of the Flood Recovery Program.

“Council appreciates our community’s patience as these important remediation works are carried out, ahead of re-opening the walks for residents to enjoy across the Christmas-New Year holidays.”

Financial assistance for the project is provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
