Residents are encouraged to have their say on the future of three Gannawarra Shire Council-owned properties at Quambatook and the Kerang Saleyards site.
Following the adoption of a recommendation at the September 2024 Council meeting, resident are able to provide their views on the future of these sites:
Three residential units located at 9-11 Guthrie Street, Quambatook. A vacant block at 2 Patterson Street, Quambatook. The Quambatook Senior Citizens Hall. The Kerang Saleyards.“Council is committed to delivering financially sustainable services to the community,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
“As part of this commitment, Council has conducted a high-level review to identify non-core assets and to assess the feasibility of specific infrastructure asset disposals.
“This review identified four locations that are not directly linked to any services currently provided by Council, which we are recommending disposing of, and would like residents’ views regarding this proposal.”
As part of the community engagement period, residents can have their say on the following proposals:
Transferring ownership of the three-unit block located at 9-11 Guthrie Street, Quambatook to a private vendor via an open market process. Originally managed by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, Council acquired this site to supplement the home/community-based services offered by its Community Care Services team. Selling the 1,400-square-metre vacant block of land located at 2 Patterson Street, Quambatook via an open market process. This legacy asset has a limited acquisition history. Transferring ownership of the Quambatook Senior Citizens Hall, which has reached its end of life and is no longer in use by the Quambatook Senior Citizens Club, to a new owner via an open market process. Permanently suspend the Kerang Saleyards on-site cattle sales service and investigate feasible options for the site, which has not held sheep sales on-site since 2008 and cattle sales on-site since 2019.Residents can provide feedback on the four proposals before 2pm Tuesday, 24 December by using one of the following options:
