In Summary Council has allocated $79,863.60 in Heritage Conservation Grants for 2024/2025, supporting restoration and conservation works for nine heritage-listed properties. Funded projects include slate roof repairs, facade restorations, verandah repairs, and damp proofing across properties in Mooroopna, Tatura, Shepparton, and other areas. The grants ensure Greater Shepparton’s cultural and architectural heritage is maintained, fostering community pride and historical appreciation for future generations. Applications for the 2025/2026 Heritage Conservation Grants will open next year, continuing Council’s commitment to safeguarding the region’s heritage.

This year’s funding has been allocated to nine properties, with projects ranging from roof repairs to facade restorations. These works not only help preserve the unique character of Greater Shepparton’s built heritage but also helps to support local trades.

The recipients for 2024/2025 are:

33 McLennan Street, Mooroopna: Slate roof repairs ($12,190) 2-10 Walshe Street, Tatura: Facade restoration ($7,398) 815 Crawford Road, Tatura: Exterior painting and window frame repairs ($12,000) 102 Nixon Street, Shepparton: Damp proofing, patching, and repairs ($5,081.60) 72-74 Corio Street, Shepparton: Foundation stabilisation and verandah repairs ($12,000) 715 Midland Highway, Shepparton East: Verandah repairs and French door replacement ($12,000) 110 Craven Road, Tatura: Roof removal and replacement ($10,452) 7 Victoria Street, Tallygaroopna: Building underpinning and releveling ($6,962) 915 Springvale Road, Harston: Flashing replacement and remudding ($1,780)

Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, highlighted the significance of the program for future generations to appreciate.

“Our heritage sites are an essential part of Greater Shepparton’s identity, connecting us to our history and shaping our community’s character,” he said.  

“It is fantastic to see so many successful applicants this year undertaking vital conservation projects. These efforts ensure that our region’s cultural heritage is preserved for future generations to appreciate and enjoy."

The Heritage Conservation Grants program highlights Council’s commitment to preserving the region’s rich history and cultural heritage. By supporting property owners with these conservation efforts, Greater Shepparton ensures these historically significant structures remain vibrant and functional for years to come.
