The Benalla community embraced the festive season on Friday evening, gathering at the Benalla Splash Park and Ceramic Mural Precinct for the annual Community Christmas Party. With over 250 people attending, the event was a celebration of community spirit, festive fun, and a sprinkle of Christmas magic.

Organised by Benalla Rural City Council and proudly sponsored by the Benalla and District Social Inclusion Action Group (SIAG), the evening offered something for everyone.

Families and friends enjoyed live music from local favourites the Timbers, sustainable craft workshops with Jess Young from Mend Make Grow, giant lawn games, face painting and kids activities. The Rotary Club of Benalla kept appetites satisfied with a sizzling barbecue, while Santa delighted children with a special visit all the way from The North Pole, complete with professional photos for the first time.

The Splash Park offered a refreshing way to beat the summer heat, adding to the fun and lively atmosphere for attendees of all ages.

The lighting of Benalla’s town Christmas tree and the launch of the festive precinct were standout moments, filling the night with joy and wonder.

Mayor Bernie Hearn said it was wonderful to see the community come together to celebrate the season.

“Christmas in Benalla is a truly magical time. It’s an opportunity for us to reflect on the year, strengthen connections with loved ones, and celebrate the incredible sense of togetherness that defines our community. Events like this remind us of how special our town is,” she said.

Mayor Hearn also acknowledged the event’s sponsor, the Benalla and District Social Inclusion Action Group, for their support.

“We are so grateful to SIAG for sponsoring this celebration. Their contribution made it possible to create such a memorable event and ensure it was accessible to everyone in our community.”

As the festive season continues, residents are encouraged to visit the precinct, admire the Christmas tree, and join in the activities that make Benalla such a vibrant and welcoming place at this time of year.

Benalla Rural City Council thanks all who contributed to the event’s success and looks forward to sharing more festive moments with the community in the coming weeks.
