The State of Gannawarra's Children and Young People Report launched

Published on 02 December 2024

A recently launched document is providing Gannawarra Shire Council and various agencies a snapshot of the health and wellbeing of the municipality’s children and young people.

Council and representatives from agencies who support children and young people in the Gannawarra gathered on Wednesday, 27 November to launch The State of Gannawarra's Children and Young People Report.

Supported by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, the report relies on 72 data indicators to determine how children and young people aged 0-24 years are faring compared to Victorian averages in relation to health and wellbeing, learning and participation.

“The State of Gannawarra's Children and Young People Report marks a significant milestone in our journey towards creating a better future for the Gannawarra’s youngest residents,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“This data will enable Council and other agencies to make informed decisions about where to partner, focus and spend our limited time and resources to achieve the highest possible gains for as many of our children and young people as possible, and critically for our most vulnerable.”

The launch enabled Council and agencies to review the report’s data, consider the impact of recent natural disasters on children and young people, available services and programs, as well as where gaps exist.

The event also explored opportunities to engage community members in the report’s findings and how to include lived experience in the development and implementation of a Family and Community Action Plan to improve outcomes to support the Gannawarra’s children and young people into the future.

“We want to work together to build a community where every child has the opportunity to thrive, supported by a framework of robust and enduring support systems,” Mr Rollinson said.

“This is achievable by all of us committing to improving outcomes relating to education, health, social and emotional wellbeing.”
