Coffee with a Cop During 16 Days of Activism

Published on 04 December 2024

The Benalla Rural City Council, in collaboration with Victoria Police, invites the community to attend a special Coffee with a Cop event as part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign. The event will take place on 10 December 2024 from 10am to Midday at The Merchant Benalla, 28 Bridge Street East, Benalla, and aims to create an open, friendly space to promote safety, connection, and dialogue within our community.

Residents of Benalla are encouraged to drop by and enjoy a free beverage while engaging in meaningful conversations with representatives from Victoria Police. This relaxed and welcoming setting provides an opportunity for community members to share their thoughts, ask questions, and learn more about safety initiatives being undertaken during this global campaign.

Cr Bernie Hearn, Mayor of Benalla Rural City, praised the event's collaborative efforts, highlighting the importance of creating inclusive spaces to promote safety and awareness.

"Initiatives like Coffee with a Cop exemplify how council and community partnerships can foster open communication and build a safer, more connected Benalla," said Cr Hearn.

"We thank Victoria Police, the Victorian Government, Respect Victoria, and all involved for their support in making this event possible."

Through initiatives such as this, the Benalla Rural City Council continues to demonstrate its commitment to fostering a thriving and safe community, addressing social issues, and promoting the wellbeing of all residents.

This Coffee with a Cop session, held during 16 Days of Activism, not only highlights the global movement to end gender-based violence but also reinforces the collective responsibility to ensure women’s safety within the community.

Cr Hearn added, "The 16 Days campaign isn’t just about raising awareness; it’s about supporting conversations that can lead to impactful change. We invite everyone to come along, enjoy a coffee, and participate in these important discussions."

The council acknowledges the generous support of the Victorian Government, Respect Victoria, Benalla Rural City Council, and Victoria Police in making this event possible. A special thank you is also extended to The Merchant Benalla for hosting this community gathering.
