Wollondilly residents will have improved access to important information during emergency events and disasters with the launch of a new website-based emergency dashboard and the installation of flood cameras in crucial locations across the Shire.

The purpose-built emergency dashboard is located on Council’s website as well as through e-kiosks located in Warragamba, Bargo and Oakdale. It includes live information such as emergency news, road and bridge closures, fire danger ratings, river heights, access to flood camera footage, weather updates, and other vital emergency and preparedness information.

The dashboard draws from multiple government sources, including Hazards Near Me, Transport for NSW, and the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), as well as emergency news from Council’s website.

Mayor Matt Gould said “The emergency dashboard was developed with input from residents and combat agencies to ensure it meets local needs. It will provide up-to-date, accessible information to those who need it during an emergency event.”

“Along with the installation of live flood cameras in a number of key locations across the Shire, this is a big step for Council and the community in terms of being as prepared as possible for future disasters.”

Council has been working with Transport for NSW to install the flood monitoring cameras at key points around the Shire - designed to monitor bridges regularly impacted by flooding to give quick, remote access to combat agencies and the community on the status of those bridges during flood events.

New cameras have now been installed at locations which are regularly impacted during storm and flood events, including Stonequarry Creek Bridge at Picton and Blaxland Crossing (Wallacia Bridge) in addition to the existing camera at Menangle Bridge, Menangle. An additional camera for Burragorang Road, Mount Hunter is still in the planning stage but will be coming soon.

The cameras can be viewed on the Live Traffic website and through the emergency dashboard.
