Council wins for exceptional environmental management

Moree Plains Shire Council has been recognised at the Local Government NSW (LGNSW) in Sydney.

James Maxwell, Council’s Special Projects Manager of Environment and Compliance, was present to accept the award in the Asbestos Management category and to speak on the Moree Plains Shire Burnt and Derelict Housing Enforcement Program.

James has successfully led our ‘Burnt and Derelict Housing Enforcement Program 2024 – 2025’.

Managing this community challenge has been a high priority for the Council and the results of Council’s enforcement activities since 2020 have seen the remediation of 60 burnt and derelict buildings in Moree with thirty (30) remediated since February 2024 and a further four (4) in Boggabilla.

The Local Government NSW awards acknowledge how Councils are leading in innovative ways that make an impactful solution to local environmental issues.
