This study has assessed impacts of projects conducted under the Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCU) Scheme using the Human-Induced Regeneration (HIR) and Native Forest from Managed Regrowth (NFMR) methods. These projects generate one Australian Carbon Credit Unit for each tonne of carbon stored, and participants can sell ACCUs. While many land managers have been financially rewarded for their efforts and the projects have accounted for significant sequestration of carbon, there is ongoing debate surrounding the broader social, economic and environmental impacts. The dominant lens of carbon and economic impacts has prevented a holistic review of the impact of carbon farming on the communities in South West Queensland.
