Huon Valley Council has approved changes to waste fees aimed at reducing costs for residents and improving operational efficiency.

Under the new fee structure:

The minimum fees for general waste, timber waste and green waste at Southbridge Waste Transfer Station will be reduced to $5 Single bed mattresses at Cygnet and Dover sites will now be charged a lower rate of $7, while mattresses at Southbridge will be charged by weight The fee for disposing fridges and air conditioners has been reduced from $35 to $15 at Southbridge and Cygnet sites

Mayor Sally Doyle said the changes which pass through savings from operational improvements make the waste fee structure simpler and fairer for residents.

“The reduced minimum fees in particular will benefit residents disposing of small amounts of waste, while the lower charges for fridges and air conditioners will help address the issue of illegal dumping of these items.”

Council reminds the community that recycling is free at all Huon Valley waste transfer stations.

“Separating your recycling from general waste and composting at home are simple ways to reduce your tipping fees and keep unnecessary waste out of landfill,” said Mayor Doyle.

The new fees take effect immediately. The full list can be accessed on Council’s website at https://www.huonvalley.tas.gov.au/council/fees-and-charges/
