Southern Airlines officially commenced operations into Emerald on Wednesday 4 December 2024, marking a new chapter in regional air connectivity for Queensland.
The airline has established a Queensland base at Archerfield Airport, located in Brisbane’s western suburbs, complementing its existing bases at Moorabbin Airport (VIC) and Devonport Airport (TAS). Southern Airlines celebrated this milestone with its first charter flight, operated by a Beechcraft B1900 aircraft, between Archerfield and Emerald.
Initially, the airline will run return flights between Emerald and Archerfield every Wednesday and Thursday, using its 19-seater Beechcraft B1900.
Southern Airlines CEO Colin Tucker expressed optimism about the airline’s expansion into Emerald, highlighting its potential as a key port for their Queensland operations.
“We’re excited to bring our services to Emerald and support the region’s growth. From mid-January, we will also offer charter flights from Toowoomba’s Wellcamp Airport to Emerald to support mining operations,” he continued.
“With strong local and business support, we have the potential to expand our schedule and destinations to meet demand,” Mr. Tucker said.
