Rockingham is Investment Ready
City of Rockingham 6 Dec 2024

The City recently hosted an Investment Ready Forum to showcase Rockingham’s development potential to representatives from a range of industries as it positions itself as a hub of growth and opportunity over the next ten years and beyond.

Mayor Deb Hamblin said Rockingham’s strategic location was its greatest competitive advantage which presented an exciting range of opportunities for investors.

“Rockingham boasts abundant opportunities in industrial, commercial, and residential development, all within a stunning coastal environment that offers an enviable lifestyle,” Mayor Hamblin said.

There is an exciting range of opportunities available, especially from the defence and defence-related industries, commercial and residential development, advanced manufacturing, training, retail, hospitality and tourism sector.

The Forum included representatives from a range of key industries and local, regional and international business chambers who were given an overview of the economic landscape and how Rockingham is “Investment Ready.”

Mayor Hamblin said the forum was part of a wider effort by the City to encourage investment in Rockingham as the region benefits from an injection of $8 billion by the Federal Government in the nearby HMAS Stirling naval base as part of the AUKUS agreement.

“We have a number of development precincts within Rockingham that provide opportunities for residential and commercial developments and our planning department is ready to assist developers navigate the approval process.”

Member for Rockingham Magenta Marshall said the AUKUS and the Westport developments would be a catalyst for investment and employment opportunities.

“Rockingham is emerging as a powerhouse in Western Australia’s South West Metropolitan Region, with a bright future in defence, industry, and tourism.

“Our local community will continue to thrive with thousands of more jobs coming when the AUKUS and Westport facilities are operational, and the countless training opportunities currently available,” Ms Marshall said.

“The City’s proximity to Westport, the Western Trade Coast, and Perth CBD amplifies its strategic importance, especially with growing industries like renewable hydrogen, critical minerals processing, and naval shipbuilding. Rockingham is also flourishing as a tourist destination, offering pristine beaches, unique wildlife, and vibrant cultural experiences.

“These initiatives underscore Rockingham’s potential as a leader in economic diversification, education, job creation, and innovation. It is an exciting time for Rockingham, and we want to work with key stakeholders from both the public and private sector, investors from local and overseas to help Rockingham realise its full development potential.”
