Innovative valve installation secures water supply reliability

Council’s water utilities team has completed a complex upgrade to Emerald’s water infrastructure, installing two valves on the Hospital Road water main while it remained fully operational.

The 250 mm water main is a critical component of the town’s water supply network, making traditional maintenance solutions challenging. With this innovative approach, the valves were installed without requiring a shutdown of the pipeline, ensuring the water supply remained uninterrupted throughout the process.

‘This project is a testament to our commitment to proactive planning and leveraging advanced techniques to improve our services,’ said General Manager Infrastructure and Utilities Jason Hoolihan.

‘The additional valves will enhance the system’s flexibility, making future repairs quicker and with minimal disruption.’

Months of preparation ensured the success of this delicate operation, which introduces new isolation points to the network. These enhancements are designed to improve the long-term reliability and efficiency of the water supply system.

The team continues to focus on maintaining and optimising the region’s water and wastewater networks to meet the growing needs of the community.
