Community Raises an Impressive Amount for Mayoral Charity

Each year the Triple M Mayoral Carols by Candlelight event signifies the start of the festive season and the chance to give back to our beloved region.
This event provides an opportunity for the community to show their generosity by donating to a charity of the Mayor’s choosing.
This year, the Mayor chose to support the local not-for-profit organisation Momentum Mental Health.
The last census data shows mental health was the most common long term health condition in Toowoomba and several surrounding towns.
Residents of our region mirrored the Mayor’s desire to help locals suffering with mental health issues by donating over $5,100.
“Raising such a significant amount of money for Momentum Mental Health shows just how empathetic our community is. To want to help your neighbour in their time of need is a demonstration of the true Aussie spirit,” Mayor Geoff McDonald said.
Momentum Mental Health relies on donations from the community to keep all their services free.
The money raised from the Triple M Mayoral Carols by Candlelight event will contribute towards Momentum Mental Health’s purpose of making services accessible to everyone and ensuring financial barriers never stand in the way of receiving mental health support.
The local not-for-profit organisation offers over 70 group sessions each month and has over 700 attendees monthly. Momentum Mental Health also provides bulk-billed psychology, psycho-social support in one-one-one sessions and group-based peer recovery support.
“I want to personally thank everyone who has donated to this life-saving organisation. Every member of our community deserves freedom from mental health issues and Momentum Mental Health is an incredible organisation who is committed to making this a reality,” Mayor McDonald said.
