The Toowoomba Regional Council is seeking up to 13 committee members to join the Multicultural Advisory Committee (MAC). As a committee member, you will provide support, recommendations and advice to the Council on a range of different issues or projects impacting the Region’s culturally and linguistically diverse community. Members of the locality with experience from sectors such as health, education, community, employment, police and emergency services are encouraged to apply.

Joining the committee offers a meaningful opportunity to create a positive impact and foster real change in the lives of residents from culturally diverse backgrounds. The Toowoomba Regional Council Community Development, Facilities and Tourism portfolio spokesperson and MAC committee chair Cr James O’Shea said it was important to have a committee dedicated to helping those in the community who may not have a voice.

“Based on the 2021 Census data, 13.9% of people in Toowoomba were born overseas and 9% of our population speaks a language other than English at home. Therefore, it’s imperative we have a committee considering and advocating for the specific needs of our multicultural community to inform Council’s decision making,” said Cr O’Shea.

Members of the MAC will develop and implement a Multicultural Strategy and subsequent action plan which will directly influence the outcomes for thousands of community members.

Applications close 5pm on Friday 24 January 2025.
