Water restrictions in Capella have increased to level 2 as dry conditions continue and the amount of raw water in council’s storage dams drops.
‘Until the catchment in Capella gets rain to top up the dams, people will be required to adopt level 2 restrictions,’ General Manager Infrastructure and Utilities Jason Hoolihan said.
‘Of course, we would prefer other news ahead of Christmas, but it’s really important that Capella residents act on these restrictions to help stretch out the town’s water supply.’
Capella’s town water comes from Capella Creek and, when needed, via a pipeline from Tieri.
The main change under level 2 restrictions is reduced sprinkler times for both lawns and garden beds, with watering only permitted between 7.00 pm and 9.00 pm.
Mr Hoolihan thanked the Capella community for their understanding and cooperation and urged all Central Highlands residents to think about their water use.
‘Water is our most precious resource, and we all play a part in protecting it,’ he said.
‘As we enter summer, we may see other towns move to tighter restrictions as well if we don’t get rain in the right places. In the meantime, there are plenty of ways to conserve water all year round such as using mulch, installing rainwater tanks and selecting the right plants for our climate.’
Mr Hoolihan reminded Capella residents that they can also track their property’s water usage via the MyWater online portal.
