2024-2025 Youth Council Mayor and Deputy Mayor elected

The Federation Council Youth Council, has elected its 2024-2025 Youth Mayor and Youth Deputy Mayor for the term at the December meeting. Max Sampson has been elected as Youth Mayor and Dayna Carter, will continue as Deputy Youth Mayor. 

Max who will be 13, when he serves his term, is passionate about the environment, jobs of the future, and young people being encouraged to do more with the arts.

Federation Council Mayor, Cr Cheryl Cook, who joined the meeting as the Councillor delegate congratulated the Youth Council on their appointments and commitment to the Council.

“Participating in the Youth Council is a wonderful chance to provide input into our community’s future,” Mayor Cook said.

“The Youth Council provides an important platform for young people to participate in local decision making and also provides opportunities to take on current and future leadership roles. I look forward to hearing what our Youth Council achieve and supporting the outcomes of their work this year.”

The Youth Council is a formal advisory committee of Council and is made up of young people aged 12-25 from across the Council area. The Youth Council provides a voice for young people and advocates on their behalf on local issues, projects and initiatives. The Youth Council provides opportunities to participate in the community by organizing events, and working on projects that support and encourage young people.

Over the last twelve months the Youth Council has hosted the Halloween Party and Disco in Corowa, hosted an outdoor cinema in Oaklands, assisted with Youth Week activities in Mulwala and Rand, represented the Council at the 2023 Federation Australia Day Awards and Community Celebration, Hay Youth Summit and the 2024 Youth Conference in Sydney. Along with provided feedback on Council’s strategic documents including the Community Strategic Plan, Community Engagement Strategy, and the Child, Youth and Family Strategy. Members sat on the Council’s John Foord Oval Facility Advisory Committee and Corowa Aquatic Centre Consultative Committee.

The 2024-2025 Youth Councillors are Max Sampson, Youth Mayor, Dayna Carter, Deputy Youth Mayor, Youth Councillor Alyssa Walda, Bel Carrol and Neveah Rosmulder.
