Over the school holiday period, from 14 December 2024 to 28 January 2025, there are a multitude of events happening across the Toowoomba Region aimed at beating school holiday boredom. Outlined below is a list of Toowoomba Regional Council’s (TRC) library, aquatic centre and other community-based events which are sure to entertain children of all ages.

Events Happening in our Libraries

Across the Region, there are 53 events happening at 11 different TRC Libraries over the entire school holiday period.

Below is a list of upcoming school holiday activities and their details, dates and times.

Check with your local library staff if you want to know more about any of the events taking place over the holidays.

Crows Nest Library

There are four upcoming Crows Nest Library events:

Egyptian Adventure program - Monday 6 January 2025 to 24 January 2025

Enter the Mummy’s Tomb diorama – Monday 6 January 2025 from 10am for one hour.

Amulets and Artifacts craft - Monday 13 January 2025 between 10am and 11am

Pyramid Maze Run event - Monday 20 January 2025 from 10am to 11am.

Highfields Library

There are nine different events upcoming at the Highfields Library:

Elf Training – Wednesday 18 December from 10am to 11am

Snow Globes craft - Thursday 19 December 2024 between 10am and 11am

Kooky Kookaburra at Christmas craft - Friday 20 December from 10am for one hour.

Egyptian Pyramid Building craft - Monday 6 January from 10am to 11:30am Egyptian

Egyptian Shadow Puppets craft – Tuesday 7 January from 2:30pm for one hour.  

Tubs of Fun in The Sun! craft - Wednesday 8 January at 10am to 11:30am

Papyrus Paper Making craft - Thursday 9 January from 10am to 11am.

Clay Cartouche craft - Friday 10 January 2025 for an hour starting at 2:30pm

Egyptian Shadow Puppets craft – Monday 13 January between 10am and 11am

Tubs of Fun in The Sun! craft – Tuesday 14 January from 10am to 11:30am

Clay Cartouche craft – Wednesday 15 January for an hour starting at 10am.

Yarraman Library

Upcoming are five scheduled Yarraman Library events:

Joke Telling and Bonbons session - Wednesday 18 December 2024 from 2pm to 3pm.

Enter the Mummy’s Tomb craft - Wednesday 8 January from 2pm to 3pm

Amulets and Artifacts sand dough craft - Wednesday 15 January for an hour starting at 2pm

Pyramid Maze Run STEM activity - Wednesday 22 January starting at 2pm till 3pm.

Quinalow Library

The Quinalow Library has one school holiday event upcoming:

Pittsworth Library

Still to come is three scheduled Pittsworth Library event:

Decorate your own bookends – Wednesday 18 December at 10am

Clifton Library

The Clifton Library are schedule to have two more school holiday events:

Decorate Your Own Bookend craft - Thursday 19 December from 10am till 12pm

Blocks and Bricks play event - Thursday 16 January between 10am and 11am. 

Goombungee Library

Goombungee Library are having one event:

Quilled Christmas Tree Cards craft - Thursday 19 December from 2:30pm to 4pm.

Millmerran Library

The Millmerran Library are scheduled to have two school holiday events:

Have a Blast with Bubbles activity - Thursday 9 January between 10am and 11am

Explore STEM at the Library event - Tuesday 14 January from 10am for one hour.

Oakey Library

Three events are schedule for the Oakey Library:

Cardboard Town craft – Monday 6 January from 9:30am to 1pm.

Messy Science Experiments! activity - Tuesday 7 January from 10am to 11am

Torch Projectors activity – Wednesday 1 January between 10am and 11am

Robotics session- Tuesday 21 January between 10am and 11am 

Cecil Plains Library

Cecil Plains Library will have two scheduled events:

Colourful Sand Art craft - Friday 10 January 2025 for an hour starting at 10am.

A Popsicle Stick Craft - Wednesday 15 January between 10am and 11am.

Toowoomba City Library

Five school holiday events will be held at the Toowoomba City Library:

Tinker’s Still Life Acrylic Painting - Thursday 16 January from 10am to 12pm

Tinker’s Jungle Animal Painting craft – Thursday 16 January from 1pm to 3pm.

Tinker’s Mixed Media Animals on Canvas craft - Friday 17 January from 10am to noon.

Tinker’s Under the Sea Painting craft – Friday 17 January between 1pm and 3pm.

Aquatic Centre’s in the Region

Below is a list of the Region’s Aquatic Centre’s, their facilities, scheduled operating hours for over the school holidays and any special events they may be hosting.

Please note the scheduled operating hours listed below may change if unforeseen circumstances occur. If you are unsure, please contact each of the Aquatic Centre’s directly.  

Cecil Plains Aquatic Centre

Minimal changes are scheduled for the opening hours of the Cecil Plains Aquatic Centre. However, all public holidays (Boxing Day and New Years Day) will operate between 11am to 4pm.

Visitors to the aquatic centre can enjoy a 25-metre heated outdoor pool and a shade covered, solar heated toddler’s pool. There is also a food and drink kiosk and BBQ facilities.

PCYC’s Pool Party (Free entry event) - Monday 13 January 2025 starting at noon until 3pm

Please note the Cecil Plains Aquatic Centre will be closed on Christmas Day.

Clifton Aquatic Centre (Clifton Memorial Pool)

The Clifton Aquatic Centre will continue their standard openings hours during the school holiday period. Although, on Christmas Eve, 24 December 2024, the pool is scheduled to close an hour early.

The Clifton Aquatic Centre has a 25m indoor solar heated swimming pool with ramp access and a shade covered wading pool for toddlers. The centre also has other facilities such as a kiosk, BBQ hire and a playground.

Please note the Clifton Aquatic Centre will be closed on Christmas Day.

Crows Nest Aquatic Centre

The Crows Nest Aquatic Centre will have standard opening hours for the school holiday period, however there will be no early swim sessions (6am to 8am) from Monday 23 December 2024 to Friday 27 December 2024 inclusive. Public holiday opening hours of 10am to 4pm are scheduled on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Highfields Aquatic and Fitness Centre

The Highfields Aquatic and Fitness Centre will be operating as usual during the school holidays with minimal scheduled changes.

The Highfields Aquatic and Fitness Centre will be opening 7am to 5pm on Christmas Eve, 24 December. Both New Year’s Eve (NYE) Tuesday 31 December, and New Year’s Day (NYD) Wednesday 1 January 2025, will both have shorter opening hours.  The centre will be open from 7am to 5pm on NYE, and from 9am to 4pm on NYD.

The Highfields Aquatic and Fitness Centre has a variety of facilities including a 25-metre heated outdoor pool, a heated children’s wading pool and a toddler’s water slide. The outdoor grassed area surrounding the pool offers visitors use of the venue’s BBQ’s and picnic tables. There are also two multipurpose courts, a climbing wall, playground and cafe.

Please note the Highfields Aquatic and Fitness Centre will be closed on Christmas and Boxing Day.

Millmerran Aquatic Centre

The Millmerran Aquatic Centre has little changes to their operating hours during the school holidays. Christmas Eve, Tuesday 24 December, will have reduced hours of 10am to 4pm, Boxing Day, Thursday 26 December, will be open from 11am to 4pm. After Christmas, there are a few scheduled changes including Friday 27 December operating from 10am to 4pm and New Years Eve and New Year’s Day will both operate between 11am to 4pm.

The Millmerran Aquatic Centre features a heated 50-metre outdoor lap pool with ramp access, a toddler pool with water jets for entertainment and a splash park with tip buckets and a wide play area. There is also a kiosk facility for a leisurely day out.

Please note that the Millmerran Aquatic Centre will be closed on Christmas Day.

Milne Bay Aquatic and Fitness Centre

Milne Bay Aquatic and Fitness Centre is mostly open per their usual standard hours. However, Milne Bay will have a few scheduled changes in the lead up to New Year’s Day. On Monday 23 December, Milne Bay will be open from 5:30am to 8pm, the following day’s opening hours (Tuesday 24 December) will be 7am to 5pm and Boxing Day’s opening hours (Wednesday 26 December) will be 9am to 4pm. The last weekend of December, Saturday 28 December and Sunday 29 December 2024, Milne Bay will have extended trading hours from 7am to 8pm. The hours for Monday 30 December will also be extended to 5:30am to 8pm. New Year’s Eve, Tuesday 31 January 2024, will be open from 7am to 6pm and Wednesday 1 January 2025 will have shorter hours from 9am to 4pm.

Milne Bay contains a 50-metre heated outdoor lap pool, a 25-metre indoor lap pool, a wave and wading pool and a heated therapy/program pool.

45-metre Water Slide - open daily between 11am and 2pm during school holidays.

Please note Milne Bay Aquatic and Fitness Centre will be closed Christmas Day.

Oakey Aquatic Centre

There are minimal scheduled changes to the opening hours of the Oakey Aquatic Centre during the school holiday period. The centre is scheduled to open from 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday, and 10:30am to 5pm on the weekends. All public holidays, including Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, will operate between 11am and 4pm.

The Oakey Aquatic Centre has a 50-metre outdoor pool with ramp access and a water wheelchair available for use. The centre also has a toddler pool fitted with various water features for entertainment. After building an appetite after swimming, you can visit the aquatic centre’s kiosk where you can buy various food items.

Please note the Oakey Aquatic Centre will be closed Christmas Day.

Pittsworth Aquatic Centre (Pittsworth Civic Pool)

The Pittsworth Aquatic Centre are scheduled to continue their normal opening hours during the school holiday period. The only scheduled differences will be public holidays such as Boxing Day (Thursday 26 December) and New Year’s Day, (Wednesday January 1 2025), where the Pittsworth Aquatic Centre will open from 11am to 4pm. Christmas Eve and the day after Boxing Day (Friday 27th December) will also open according to general public holiday hours which are 10am to 4pm. 

The Pittsworth Aquatic Centre includes an outdoor 50m lap swimming pool with ramp access and offers a water wheelchair available for use. Other facilities also include a toddler splash pool and play area, kiosk, and grassed area to enjoy.

Please note the Pittsworth Aquatic Centre is closed Christmas Day.

Yarraman Aquatic Centre (Yarraman Memorial Pool)

The Yarraman Aquatic Centre won’t have many scheduled changes to their opening hours over the school holiday period. However, Christmas Eve (Tuesday 24 December) will be operating from 9am to 4pm. The hours for Boxing Day (26 December 2024) and New Year’s Day (1 January 2025) will be 12pm to 5pm. The centre will be open on New Year’s Eve (Tuesday 31 December) from 9am to 4pm.

Visitors can enjoy a 25-metre heated outdoor pool, and a shade covered solar heated toddler’s pool. There is also a playground and kiosk on site. 

Swimming Block Event – Monday 20 January 2025 to Friday 24 January 2025.

Please note the Yarraman Aquatic Centre will be closed Christmas Day.

Holiday Craft

Toowoomba Regional Council is supporting Headspace Toowoomba’s Holiday Craft sessions. There are three free upcoming sessions with a ceramic holiday ornament craft on Tuesday 17 December 2024 from 2pm to 4pm, and two pour painting and pot & rock painting events on Monday 6 January 2025 and Monday 13 January 2025 both from 2pm to 4pm.

Kids’ BJMA Muay Thai

As part of the TRC Change Project, children can attend BJMA Muay Thai classes at a low cost every Monday evening from 5pm to 6pm at the St Paul’s Lutheran Church Hall. These classes provide a safe and fun environment which teaches children about self-defence, assertiveness, self-confidence and cooperation.

Please note classes will cease over the Christmas period however they are scheduled to resume on Monday 13 January 2025.  

Bookings for the Kids’ BJMA Muay Thai classes are essential.

Bush Kids

Another initiative of the TRC Change Project is the Sow & Nurtured Bush Kids sessions. For ages 0-12 years, on Monday January 6 2025 between 9:30am and 10:30am, children can gather along the East escarpment of Toowoomba at J.E Duggan Park, to share in a yarn circle, read a story and participate in a small bush walk. These walks are pram and wheelchair assessable.

The Cobb&Co Museum

The Cobb&Co Museum is scheduled to open during the school holidays from 9am to 4pm daily. Please note there are exceptions for Christmas Day 25 December and Boxing Day 26 December where the museum will be closed.

During the school holidays, Cobb&Co are hosting ten different events including wildlife shows, nature collage workshops, augmented and virtual reality sessions, book reading sessions, bird watching workshops and nature journaling sessions.

Please note Toowoomba residents can get into Cobb& Co for free, however some of the activities/workshops may involve fees.
