Entries are open for Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery’s (TRAG) nationally recognised Contemporary Wearables ’25 Biennial Jewellery Award and Exhibition.
Toowoomba Region Mayor Cr Geoff McDonald said the awards were the Gallery’s contribution to promoting excellence in contemporary adornment.
Mayor McDonald said the biennial event, which was established in 1989 with the aid of the Toowoomba Gallery Society, was open to contemporary makers who were permanent residents.
“Council is proud to support this prestigious award. It is Council’s major funded initiative for contemporary visual arts practice in the Gallery’s 2025 program,” Mayor McDonald said.
“Council is pleased to support Australian artists and provides funds for acquisitions to continue building one of the most cohesive surveys of contemporary jewellery and object practice in Australia.”
TRC Library and Cultural Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Melissa Taylor said emerging and prominent makers were welcome to enter. Entries close on Friday, May 2, 2025.
Cr Taylor said the 2025 awards included a $6000 Excellence award, a $4000 Innovation award and a $2000 Student award.
“Entries are judged by leading industry professionals in the field of jewellery and object practice,” Cr Taylor said.
“Entries selected by the judges will be showcased in the Contemporary Wearables ’25 exhibition at Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery from August 30 to November 23, 2025.
“The exhibited pieces are eligible for awards and can be acquired for the Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery – Toowoomba City Collection.
“The award is a noted highlight in the calendar of many of Australia’s leading contemporary jewellers and object practitioners.
“The exhibition will showcase the current trends of makers and celebrate the innovation and craftsmanship of artists.
“Pieces that are acquired for the Gallery’s Collection are a legacy of the award and continue to build one of Australia’s leading contemporary jewellery collections.”
