The Town of Bassendean is excited to announce that Council endorsed the Bassendean Oval Redevelopment Draft Concept Masterplan during its Ordinary Council Meeting last night.

This milestone marks a significant step in shaping the future of the iconic Bassendean Oval precinct. The Draft Concept Masterplan was informed by an extensive public consultation process held from Monday, 28 October, to Monday, 18 November 024. Engagement activities included a community survey, two interactive workshops, and written submissions via email. The consultation was supported by static displays, social media promotion, posters, and signage across the community.

A total of 1,144 surveys were completed. Of the respondents, 52% were Town of Bassendean residents, and 48% were ratepayers. Most respondents were regular users of the reserve or frequent passersby. Feedback analysis showed that the majority of respondents supported the Draft Concept Masterplan. However, some concerns were raised regarding the proposed residential developments to the east of the Oval.

In response to community feedback, the Steering Committee recommended adjustments to the Concept Masterplan, which were endorsed by Council. Key revisions include:

Two proposed residential buildings on the eastern side have been removed, leaving only one residential building in the northeast adjacent to Guildford Road as a representation of potential future development. Potential residential developments previously planned above the football/commercial/community facilities on the western side have been relocated to a standalone development at the northern end. This ensures construction can proceed independently when appropriate, as determined by the State Government. The footbridge has been relocated to minimise impacts on private properties. As it is beyond the scope of this project, the Concept Masterplan represents it as a translucent element, similar to the indicative future residential components.
