William Street: Reimagined
City of Fremantle 19 Dec 2024

The City of Fremantle and its community partners have received a Streets Alive grant for the William Street: Reimagined project.

Fremantle was one of seven communities in WA to be awarded Streets Alive funding to bring innovative, collaborative projects to life, creating streets that prioritise people over cars.

The project will beautify and transform a section of William Street, into a ‘human-first street’, with planting, public artworks, alfresco seating and other measures to enhance street safety and encourage pedestrian and bicycle activity.

The project is a collaboration between the City and its community partners and was developed based on ideas put forward by the FreoDOC Town Team, Dr Brad Pettitt MLC, Fremantle Culture Council, Design Freo and various prominent local business owners.

The grant application was shaped by the community and will require further engagement through the City’s MySay program to implement the conceptual plans.

The planting of semi-mature trees in the project space last year was the catalyst for this next transformation, which will commence in the first half of 2025.

The Streets Alive funding program is delivered by the Town Team Movement in partnership with Main Roads WA and the WA Local Government Association.
