Since 2001, the City of Wanneroo has proudly welcomed more than 30,000 new citizens, including over 1,500 people from 69 countries this year alone.
The majority of this year’s citizens have moved here from New Zealand followed closely by the United Kingdom and South Africa
Mayor Linda Aitken said it was a proud moment for the City to celebrate the strength and vibrancy of our multicultural community.
“We are proud of our City and its heritage, and embrace the ancient Aboriginal culture and the spirit of our pioneers, who forged a future for the City of Wanneroo, as well as the diverse mix of traditions and customs from across the world that have made Wanneroo a cultural centre with its own unique regional history,” she said.
“Over 170 nationalities are represented among the City’s population of 234,000 people and more than 40 per cent of our residents were born overseas.
“As more and more people choose to make the City of Wanneroo their home, our rich tapestry of traditions and customs continues to grow.
“Our citizenship celebrations are an opportunity to acknowledge and respect the contributions made by our all of our community members to the life of our City, this region and this country.”
