Ceramic artist Aurora Elwell explores human desire in her exhibition, The Body Vessel: Desire, which will be displayed at Crows Nest Gallery from January 8 to February 9, 2025.
The Body Vessel: Desire is a collection of ceramic vessels that emerged from Aurora Elwell’s personal exploration into the nature of yearning, and how it shapes, compels, and often consumes us.
Elwell’s artistic practice is driven by a desire to understand her own emotions, which she interprets into tangible forms.
Desire is not a simple or singular feeling; it is a complex force that pulls us in different directions, simultaneously creating a sense of longing, fulfilment and emptiness.
The Body Vessel: Desire reveals the many layers of human longing, reflecting on its hidden complexities.
Desire can feel sharp, urgent and captivating, a force that moves us towards what we want.
In Elwell’s work, desire is portrayed not only as a motivator but also as a reflection of our deeper needs and vulnerabilities, a powerful and paradoxical emotion that shapes the contours of our human experience.
The exhibition’s Meet the Artist event will be held from 11am to 1pm on Sunday, January 12, 2025.
This project was made possible by the Australian Government's Regional Arts Fund, provided through Regional Arts Australia, administered in Queensland by Flying Arts Alliance.
