NOTICE OF PUBLIC APOLOGY

A complaint was made to the Local Government Standards Panel, in which it was alleged that I contravened Regulation 19 of Division 4 of the Local Government (Model Code of Conduct) Regulations 2021 when, as the then-Mayor of the Town and in order to give effect to a decision of Council, I contacted a legal adviser engaged by the Town to seek an update on the time for delivery of advice sought by the Council on an urgent basis.

In clarifying that the advice required by Council was narrower than the scope of the advice sought by the Town’s staff in implementing the Council’s decision, the Panel found that I breached Regulation 19 by my conduct in that I contributed to the administration of the Town.

I acknowledge that I should have not engaged in the relevant conduct and I now apologise to the Town.
