Repairs to flood-damaged roads continues

Published on 09 January 2025

Work to repair all Gannawarra Shire Council-managed roads damaged during the 2022 floods is on track to be completed by 30 June.

Council has spent the past two years working with the State Government to seek approval for repairs to more than 700 kilometres of road damaged during what was the municipality’s second major flood in an 11-year period.

“Receiving confirmation that Council can engage contractors to complete repairs across various areas of the municipality will provide peace of mind for residents and motorists who are still having to navigate roads damaged during floods that impacted the Gannawarra more than two years ago,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“The delays we have faced in rolling out these repairs is unfortunately not a Gannawarra Shire Council-specific issue, with other municipalities impacted by the 2022 floods also having to navigate similar funding arrangement concerns.”

As part of the latest round of repairs approved to proceed thanks to joint Commonwealth and State Government-funded Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, work will occur on roads throughout Appin South, Kerang East, Lake Charm, Meering West, Reedy Lake, Quambatook, and Wandella.

Repairs are continuing along Council-managed sealed roads damaged during the floods, including Kerang-Lalbert, Koroop and Murrabit West roads.

Any changes to accessing roads being repaired will be promoted via Council’s website, Gannawarra News, Gannawarra Connect and Council’s Facebook page.
