Thursday, 16 January 2025 - You're invited to take part in the creation of a community Kolam in Portico Park, Toongabbie.
Kolam is traditional Tamil artwork style made by drawing weaving lines, curves and loops, drawn around a grid pattern of dots. You will pick up some chalk and use the pavement as your canvas, contributing to a community created installation in the heart of Toongabbie Town Centre at Portico Park. If you’re a beginner, local Tamil speaking Indian Australian artist Rupa Parthasarathy will guide you. If you’re an experienced Kolam creator, show off and share your skills!
Plus, if you’re in the area, you can join in the community Kolam all week long. From early on Monday 13 January, a Kolam grid pattern will be laid out in Portico Park. Chalk will be available, and we welcome locals and visitors to drop in and make your own mark, in celebration of Thai Pongal and Tamil Heritage Week in Cumberland.
