Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) today (Friday, January 10, 2025) closed the picnic area below the Cooby Dam spillway as a precaution, given the forecast for continuing wet weather.

Toowoomba Region Mayor Cr Geoff McDonald said Council was monitoring the Cooby Dam water level, which was still beneath the spillway level.

“Council is closely monitoring rainfall readings and forecasts. Rainfall in the catchments will influence further inflows to our three dams,” Mayor McDonald said.

“The situation at Cooby Dam will continue to be monitored and we will provide updates if rain forecast for the weekend leads to more inflows to the dam.

“Council will take all necessary action under the emergency action plan if these steps are needed. This includes notifying property owners who are directly downstream of Cooby Dam if water spills at the dam.

“Please avoid travelling if possible and always heed the simple message; ‘If it’s flooded, forget it’.”

In a life-threatening emergency call 000 and for emergency flood or storm assistance, call the State Emergency Service on 132 500.
