We know that tree canopy is increasingly important in our urban environment. Planting new trees will help over time, but the greatest benefits come from large, mature trees which provide the greatest canopy cover.
To retain and protect this existing canopy cover, the City of Fremantle has drafted a Tree Retention Policy, and it would like to hear from the community.
The policy aims to increase the retention of mature trees on private property so their benefits can be integrated into new developments.
Landowners will be encouraged to think about tree-friendly design in the planning and development process and removal of trees above a specific size will require a development approval, under the policy.
Feedback on the policy will be considered by Council, before its final adoption.
