Become a ChangeMaker and help shape Freo’s future

The City of Fremantle is calling for young people aged 18 to 30 who want to make a difference in their community to apply for its youth leadership program.

The ChangeMakers program is a dynamic mentorship initiative designed to empower young leaders with the knowledge and skills to drive positive social change – from lobbying different levels of government, to campaigning for change at a community level.

The City is looking for 10 people who have a meaningful connection to Fremantle and have a cause or an idea that they want to progress.

“In this mentorship program, you will meet likeminded and inspirational other young ChangeMakers while also learning new skills and building valuable connections,” she said.

“Throughout the six-month program I learnt about how local government works, gained insights into interesting current projects and had great discussions about how to drive positive change as part of them.

“The program has definitely had an impact on my career decisions and opened up lots of opportunities for me to get involved with the local community.”

This six-month program, from February to July 2025, will enable participants to explore the variety of ways in which to facilitate change.

Weekly mentor meetings will cover topics such as how to engage with government, and how to develop successful techniques to progress their strategic objectives.

Participants will have access to guest speakers and experts in relevant fields who will share their knowledge and experience.

Additionally, participants will be given the opportunity to take part in paid consultations with the City on matters they are passionate about. 

To be considered for selection, applicants must be aged between 18 and 30 years old, and be able to provide examples of initiatives, campaigns or events they’ve been part of, or are inspired by.
