The Town of Cambridge has completed important infrastructure upgrades at the City Beach coastal precinct, focusing on public safety and enhanced amenities.

The two-stage $1,350,000 project includes upgraded lighting and CCTV installation in car parks and open spaces creating a safer environment for beachgoers and local businesses.

City Beach and neighbouring Floreat Beach are iconic locations within Perth metropolitan, attracting millions of visitors each year. In the 2024 calendar year alone, Surf Life Saving WA recorded more than 2 million people visited our beaches, highlighting their importance as premier destinations for locals and tourists alike.

The iconic mast tower lighting has been replaced and upgraded to energy-efficient LED technology, reducing energy consumption by 40 per cent and cutting maintenance costs. The new lighting provides uniform illumination, enhancing the night-time experience with a brighter, cleaner environment.

“The Town is committed to ensuring the safety and enjoyment of everyone who visits our beautiful City Beach precinct. This upgraded lighting and CCTV improves visibility and safety while also supporting sustainability by reducing energy consumption. It’s a win-win for our community,” Mayor Gary Mack said.

“Safety is our top priority, and we are pleased to see this project come to fruition. These improvements are part of our ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance the City Beach precinct, ensuring it remains a top destination for our community.”

The works have been completed in two stages: car park lighting and CCTV installation, followed by lighting upgrades to the pedestrian pathways. The upgrades ensure a safer and more enjoyable environment for all visitors.
