DRINKING WATER TESTS CONFIRM SAFETY

The Deniliquin water supply has been tested for PFAS (per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances) and confirmed safe for drinking.

Edward River Interim Chief Executive Officer, Gary Arnold said Council had taken advantage of NSW Health's offer to undertake PFAS testing of Deniliquin’s water supply to ensure compliance with the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.

“I am pleased to be able to reassure residents that no traces of these contaminants were detected in our water supply and it is perfectly safe to drink.

“Deniliquin’s residents can trust that the water provided to their households adheres to Australia’s strict health and safety guidelines,” said Mr Arnold.

Tests at the Deniliquin Water Treatment Plant showed the measured level of PFAS-related chemicals was less than 1 nanogram per litre, which is below the detectable value for the chemicals. 

Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a class of more than 4,000 manufactured chemicals that are not found naturally in the environment and have been widely used in industrial and consumer products.
