Upgraded Jim Parkes Reserve Officially Opened

In the heart of the Beaconsfield commercial district, the beloved Jim Parkes Reserve has now been revitalised and is officially open for all to enjoy!

Yesterday, Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Jack Kowarzik and Beacon Hills Ward Councillor Brett Owen gathered with fellow Councillors, State Members for South-Eastern Metropolitan, the Hon. Michael Galea MP and the Hon. Lee Tarlamis MP, members of the Beaconsfield Progress Association (BPA), family of the late Jim Parkes, and community members to mark the occasion.

The upgraded Jim Parkes Reserve now features a new play space, accessible pathways, seating, sheltered gathering areas including barbeque and picnic tables, interpretive signage, bins, improved drainage, and enhanced landscaping.

This significant community project, supported by matched funding from the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund and Cardinia Shire Council, has transformed the reserve into a vibrant and well-connected space for all residents to enjoy.

Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Jack Kowarzik shared his enthusiasm for the project.

“The revitalisation of Jim Parkes Reserve demonstrates our commitment to enhancing community spaces and providing residents with high-quality recreational facilities and serves as a reminder of the impact of collaboration between government and community.

“We’re grateful for the support of the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund and the invaluable contributions of the Beaconsfield Progress Association in bringing this project to fruition,” Mayor Kowarzik said.

Mayor Kowarzik also remarked that Council was honoured to have Kerry Canning, Jim’s daughter, and her family attend the opening.

“Proudly named in honour of the late Jim Parkes, the transformed reserve stands as a testament to Jim’s commitment and enduring impact on the local community, and it ensures his memory lives on in the heart of Beaconsfield.”

Beaconsfield Progress Association President, Graeme Taylor, Secretary, Ann Taylor, and their fellow members were present to celebrate the milestone. The Association has been instrumental in all stages of consultation and provided a letter of support to secure funding.

Ward Councillor Brett Owen expressed thanks to everyone involved in the project.

“As a local resident, I am thrilled to see the transformation of Jim Parkes Reserve. This project has truly been a combined effort, and it is wonderful to see families and friends enjoying the new amenities. I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone involved, especially the Beaconsfield Progress Association, for their dedication and hard work,” Cr Owen said.
