Keep our region beautiful with Clean Up Australia events this year!

Central Highlands Regional Council will join the Great Spring Clean Up later in the year when the weather is cooler, in the meantime, residents are still encouraged to get behind the annual Clean Up Australia Day in March.

Mayor Janice Moriarty invited everyone to join in Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday 2 March. 

‘It is a fantastic opportunity for residents to come together to tidy their footpath, street or public places to improve their town,’ Mayor Moriarty said. 

‘While council’s official event will be later in the year, this chance to get involved and make a difference is greatly appreciated by people right across our beautiful region.’

Council will then host an event for the Great Spring Clean Up on Sunday 31 August 2025. This community-focused event will take advantage of the milder weather to maximise participation and impact.

Mayor Moriarty said she is looking forward to the Great Spring Clean Up and urged the community to mark their calendars.

‘The Great Spring Clean Up is a wonderful way to come together as a community and make a lasting impact. We’ll provide clean-up materials, and there will be fun activities and a free sausage sizzle to enjoy. Stay tuned for more details as the event approaches,’ she said.

How you can participate in Clean Up Australia Day:

Join an event near you: Visit Clean Up Australia’s website to find registered events or create your own. Take small steps: Bring a rubbish bag on your daily walks, say no to single-use plastics, and recycle wherever possible. Involve your family and friends: Make it a fun activity by cleaning up your local park or street together.

Keep up the good work all year round:

Collect bottles and cans: Earn 10c per item through Containers for Change or donate proceeds to charity. Donate pre-loved goods: Keep items out of landfills by selling or donating them through initiatives such as local tip shops or op shops. Be mindful of waste: Avoid buying oversized packages and freeze perishable items to reduce food waste. Unsubscribe from unnecessary emails: Keep your inbox clean and reduce digital clutter.
