Public notice: Update to boil water notice in Anakie

Posted on January 31, 2025

Anakie residents are advised that the Boiled Water Advisory (BWA) issued on 13 December 2024 remains in effect. Council continues efforts to resolve the underlying issue in close collaboration with Queensland Health.

Residents are asked to use boiled water:

Bring water to a rolling boil and allow it to cool.   Store water in a clean container with a lid and refrigerate.

Cooled, boiled water should be used for:

drinking, cooking, washing raw foods (such as seafood or salads), making ice, pets drinking water and cleaning teeth  dishes should be washed in hot soapy water.

The advisory was initially in place due to cloudy water, suspected to be caused by a bore malfunction. To investigate the issue, the bore was taken offline, and contingency measures were implemented to ensure a stable water supply at the Anakie Water Treatment Plant.

On Friday 24 January, council inspected the Anakie bore. The inspection uncovered multiple cracks and holes in the casing both above and below the waterline, with the bore fully collapsed at a depth of 32.7 meters. As a result, it has been deemed unusable and will be decommissioned.

Council is now in the process of organising the drilling of a replacement bore. In the meantime, water carting operations to the newly installed storage tanks are ongoing to ensure a steady supply of water to the town. Bottled water will continue to be made available from Anakie Police Station during this period.

Council acknowledges the inconvenience caused by this situation and appreciates residents’ patience and cooperation during this time.

Council remains committed to resolving the issue as swiftly and efficiently as possible. Further updates, including confirmed timeframes for the bore drilling, will be provided as information becomes available.
