Aaron Johansson has officially commenced his role as the new Chief Executive Officer of Central Highlands Regional Council today.
Bringing a wealth of experience in local government, Mr Johansson relocated to Emerald with his wife in December and says he already feels at home.
‘I’m no stranger to Central Queensland, having been raised in Gladstone and having worked in Emerald, Rockhampton and Moranbah before,’ he said.
‘I love the vibrancy, uniqueness, and collaborative spirit of regional communities, which is what drew me to this role at CHRC.
‘My wife Sandra and I have been warmly welcomed, and I’m eager to explore the Central Highlands further and engage with the community.
‘I look forward to working closely with our dedicated council staff, elected members, and residents to drive positive outcomes for this great region.’
Mr Johansson brings significant leadership experience to the position, having previously served as CEO at Goulburn Mulwaree Council in New South Wales and Charters Towers Regional Council. He has also held the role of Director of Corporate, Governance and Financial Services at Isaac Regional Council.
Beyond local government, Mr Johansson has an extensive background in the mining, financial management, and banking sectors. He holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting), is a Qualified Chartered Accountant and holds qualifications in financial planning, and a Master of Business Administration.
Mayor Janice Moriarty welcomed Mr Johansson’s appointment on behalf of herself and councillors, expressing confidence in his leadership.
‘Aaron brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to our council,’ Mayor Moriarty said.
‘His strong leadership and strategic approach will help us navigate future challenges and opportunities for the benefit of our community.’
