McLean Road bridge replacement works begin

Work to replace the McLean Road bridge at Ninyeunook with a concrete structure will begin today.

Occurring as part of Gannawarra Shire Council’s $29 million 2024/25 capital works program, the project will involve replacing the current timber bridge that spans a tributary of the Avoca River with a concrete structure.

“The McLean Road bridge is one of the more than 60 bridges that Council maintains, and with some of these structures nearing the end of their life, it is important that work occurs to replace these structures to cater for existing farming operations and future generations,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

McLean Road will still be accessible whilst these works are occurring via a bypass track.

“Council thanks residents and motorists for their patience whilst these works are occurring, which should be completed by the end of the month,” Mr Rollinson said.

The McLean Road bridge replacement project is the third bridge replacement to occur during this financial year, following on from recently completed work to install a new structure at Apex Park Road, Reedy Lake and efforts currently occurring to replace the Kervins Road bridge, west of Cohuna.

“The Kervins Road bridge replacement project is on track for completion in the next few weeks, which will improve vehicle access to residents that rely on this bridge to access their properties and services,” Mr Rollinson said.

Council’s 2024/25 bridge replacement program is supported by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program and the Roads to Recovery Program.
